Dr. Janet Stout

Janet E. Stout is founder and president of Special Pathogens Technology, executive vice president and founder of Special Pathogens Laboratory, and research associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. 

An infectious disease microbiologist, Dr. Stout is recognized worldwide for more than 30 years of pioneering research in Legionella. Her expertise includes disinfection and control strategies for the prevention of Legionnaires’ disease and other waterborne pathogens.

Special Pathogens Technology was founded by Dr. Janet E. Stout to deliver medical and environmental consulting services, educational and technology solutions that advance the prevention of Legionnaires’ disease and infections from other waterborne pathogens in building water systems. Medical consultation includes providing expert, evidence-based recommendations on the diagnosis, treatment, and infection prevention control of Legionnaires’ disease. 

As advocates of prevention for more than 30 years, our big hairy audacious goal (BHAG) is to end Legionnaires’ disease.
