PUZZLED BY POTENTIAL JOINT COMMISSION SURVEY VULNERABILITIES?

The Joint Commission issued updated Water Management Program (WMP) standards for 2022 that increase the focus on the building risk assessment and building diagrams, management responsibility and oversight, documented control measures and corrective actions, risk assessment protocols for construction and renovation, and the annual review. This increased focus aligns with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid survey directive issued in 2017 for hospitals, critical access hospital and long-term care. The WMP documents were added to the document check list that the life safety JC surveyors will review immediately upon arrival at the facility. With the increased focus from a risk assessment process to written documentation, there are key issues to highlight to ensure a successful survey.
