PUZZLED BY THE CHANGES TO CDC’S LEGIONELLA TESTING GUIDANCE?
Wednesday, December 15 @ Noon EDT
For more than 30 years, microbiologists and physicians at Special Pathogens Laboratory have been advocating proactive prevention of Legionnaires’ disease. Testing a water system for the presence of Legionella before cases occur is the keystone of this prevention approach. Over these decades, the CDC hasn’t supported testing for Legionella unless part of a case investigation or in a transplant unit. Surprisingly, in January 2021, the CDC made a significant change and issued new guidance for routine Legionella testing. The details of these changes and their input on Legionella water management will be discussed.
